Remember those Four Lions posters which quoted the word “funny” from its reviews over and over? The Woman in Black could pull a similar trick with the word “scary”. This is a scary film, and when it comes to horror does anything else really matter?
Does it matter that Daniel Radcliffe’s performance verges on the wooden? Or that the execution has something of the school play about it? At a time when horror movies favour the horrible over the terrifying The Woman in Black is a rare, old-fashioned treat.
