Despite being one of the best films I saw last year Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans still doesn’t have a UK release date.
In the vain hope that it might crop up at some festival near you I will review it anyway. Then you can say to all your friends “Oh there’s that great new Werner Herzog film. Let’s go and see it” rather than shrugging your shoulders and muttering “I’ve got literally no idea what that is about. Let’s go and see Despicable Me“.
So forget that in the very first sentence I told you this was one of the best films I saw last year and prepare yourself for the Viewfinder General review of BL: PoC – NO
Review:
“Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans is one of the best films I saw last year”.
Nicolas Cage has been perfecting his Nicolas Cage thing for years and whilst some saw this refinement as sign of diminishing talent it turns out he was just preparing himself for this role. He’s brilliant and so are the supporting cast.
It also strikes a near perfect balance between high-minded arty weirdness and delirious WTF entertainment.
I think the fact that I put three large photos in this fairly short post says it all.
